Description

A timber-framed Tudor grammar school, housing a collection of local history and archaeology exhibits. Monthly exhibitions are held by local artists.

The Leyland Free Grammar School was one of the earliest in the county, dating back to 1524. Much of the present building dates from ca. 1580, and is a fine example of the local timber-framed construction technique. Though the school closed in 1876 after over 300 years, the building continues to preserve a vivid picture of life in times past, with displays reflecting the borough's archaeology and its industrial and social history.

It is not suitable for blind or physically handicapped visitors, though every effort is made to accommodate them.

Opening times Tuesday and Friday 10am-4pm, Thursday 1-4pm, Saturday 10am-1pm
Free town centre car & coach parking adjacent.
