Description
About the business:
We are to coffee what milk is to latte. If you haven’t yet had a coffee from Bean drinking, you may not have experienced just how good coffee can be. We aim to be the very best coffee shop possible and to help us get there we enter competitions from the UKBC to the BSA Awards. We constantly review our products and recipes with both our suppliers and our guests to help create the perfect coffee experience and we compliment the awesome beverages with a simple food menu, a luxurious deserts menu and the option to purchase coffee and brewing equipment to take home. We offer advice on what coffee’s would suit your palate and how to make them great.
Our food menu will be evolving throughout the year, focusing on tasty snacks to best accompany a coffee, including delicious cakes, ice cream Panninis and fresh fruit.
Tom & Zoe Booth opened the doors officially on 19th July 2010, although there was a Bean Drinking preview at the 2010 Leyland festival. Tom moved to Leyland with his family at the age of 7. Starting with Woodlea Junior school, Tom continued his education at Balshaws, Runshaw and then UCLAN, where he met Zoe. After university the couple traveled together, working in London and the Caribbean but when the time came to get married & settle down there was only really one place they could call home, so they bought a house in Leyland. Married in 2008, they now have a daughter Eris and the Booth family intend to stay in Leyland at least throughout Eris’ school years, if not for all time. Katie is our only paid barista & is a vital part of Bean Drinking, we've known her for years & we could not operate without her!
We sell:
Starting life as an “espresso & ice cream bar” we are still true to this tagline today, although we try to add new strings to our bow every day. Coffee always has, and always will be our number one feature. We now sell beans to take home and brewing equipment, so you can have great coffee at home, in the office, always. As Steve (our roaster) says “life is too short for bad coffee”. On the ice cream side we offer 7 ever changing flavours of Frederick’s ice cream in waffle cones, tubs, in milkshakes or incorporated into luscious deserts.
We have an ever expanding food menu. From toasties, paninis & bagles to soup & salads we have lots of light options served throughout the day and into the evening. Cakes are important to us, but so is fresh fruit and we like to keep a good variety of healthy and decadent things to pick up and nibble with a brew.
The website - http://beandrinking.co.uk/ has all our menus, events and retail items and is updated regularly so you can always keep up to date with whats “bean going on”
We offer a large space to meet up with friends and family, to hold talks and classes while we are open and even to exclusively hire out. We also have a number of events we put on ourselves, which can all be seen on our website.
We sell:
All of our coffee is roasted in Lancaster and grown all over the world. We also have a large variety of loose leaf teas from the Lancaster blend to Earl Gray and a number of fruit teas. During the summer months we will be serving the award winning Frederic’s Ice Cream in a number of ways. Of course tubs and cones are on the menu, but we will also be using this quality ice cream to make exciting milkshake combinations to go with our iced fruit smoothes.
We are launching a line of Panini’s and toasty’s and have several ideas for Autumn, Winter and Spring menu additions from new cakes and pastries to soup and salads. Coffee will always be our main focus but we want to offer whatever our guests would like.
We will offer an assortment of facilities to make our guests experience more comfortable and enjoyable. A baby change station is in the customer toilets with full disabled facilities. Benches and comfortable chairs are available to sit inside as well as chairs outside when we get a bit of sunshine.
Most proud of:
We are most proud of the quality of the products we offer and the environment in which we work. We have chosen the best in everything we do from the best coffee machine, coffee beans and milk to the best ice cream and we are constantly finding new suppliers for great new products. We will only serve quality products, where possible locally sourced and at a reasonable price.
We have built the brand from scratch ourselves from the colour scheme to the logos and all the crockery and furniture to match. We pride our brand as not only a great place for our guests to visit but also a fantastic place to work.
Amusing:
Sure, why not. We had 1 man come in & said he got a stabbing pain in his right eye every time he drank a coffee, we suggested he took the spoon out after stirring ;)
A lady came in and told us her husband used to make her bad coffee every morning. It was grounds for divorce
Other favourite shops:
Atkinsons Jewellers is great, the team that work there are top! We get all our bread from Greenhalgh’s across the road and love the fact we can get fresh bread to order every day. Then our local watering hole the Gables it's always nice for a drink & their ever friendly service keeps us coming back. Finally Grandad Jim’s sweet store is where we get some of our toppings for our more elaborate drinks. Love it in there, we’re like kids in, well, in a sweet shop ;)
Celebrity connection:
Yeah we have! From rock stars to football legends Bean Drinking is a hotspot for A-list celebs, honest. Pictures? Well, erm no, we like to let the superstars enjoy their coffee without being hassled, so we never report them coming in or take any photos. You’ll just have to wait & see who’s in on your next visit.
Finally:
We love our coffee shop. Coffee is hugely important, but just as important is the relationship we have with our guests. We find time wherever possible to chat with our guests, to see what you enjoy, what you would like us to do, or just to see whats been going on in your lives. We live in Leyland & we live for Leyland. Bean Drinking is lots of things to many people, from the mums meeting place after dropping the older kids at school to informal office space used by students and professionals seeking wi-fi and great coffee. We are a safe environment for groups, couples or people on their own wanting to stop the world for 20 mins. We are what you make of us and if you want to make use of the fantastic space we have here feel free to shoot an e-mail over to tom@beandrinking.co.uk or come in & say hi.
